Looking for the latest on Australia Post’s stamp prices? On April 3, 2024, stamp prices have gone up. Regular and large letters will cost more, but not Christmas or concession stamps. Higher costs and fewer letters are behind the move, with approval from the ACCC and the Ministers. Here’s a quick look at the new prices and and its impact on everyday users.

Overview of Australia Post’s Stamp Price Increase

Australia Post increased the cost of sending letters starting April 3, 2024, following approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Minister for Communications. Why the Increase?

Australia Post’s letter service has been facing declining volumes and increased operational costs, leading to financial pressures. The ACCC confirmed that the new rates are meant to recover these costs without resulting in profit gains for Australia Post.

Using Old Stamps

Older stamps can still be used, but the total value must match or exceed the new rates. For instance, to send a small letter at $1.50, you could use two old $0.75 stamps or add a 30-cent top-up to a $1.20 stamp.

Concession and Christmas Stamps

The cost for concession stamps remains at 60 cents, and eligible customers can purchase up to 50 concession stamps annually. Christmas stamps will continue to be priced at 65 cents and are available for sending cards in November and December This adjustment ensures that while regular postage prices increase, the more vulnerable segments of the community such as concession holders are protected from these changes
